Description
Originally from Syria (Damascus) or Central Asia, Damask roses are mainly cultivated in the Valley of Roses in central Bulgaria and the Dades Valley in the heart of the Moroccan High Atlas. At Puressentiel, they come exclusively from Bulgaria. Also known as the Castilian Rose or Rosa x damascena Mill. in Latin, its flowers are prized for their exquisite and powerful fragrance. Each bloom is made up of around 30 petals in varying shades of pink with a golden-yellow center.
Damask Rose Essential Oil is rare and precious due to the fragility of its flowers, the complexity of the harvesting process, and its very low essential oil yield (0.03 to 0.04%). It has a pale yellow color and is characterized by strong, floral, rosy notes, which may subtly vary depending on the origin.
Its consistency varies with temperature. You may notice crystallization of the essential oil when stored at room temperature (≈ 20°C). This does not affect its properties—in fact, it is a sign of authenticity and quality. To liquefy it, gently warm the bottle in your hands or under lukewarm water.
To ensure maximum concentration and quality, the oil is extracted by double steam distillation.
Did you know?
A double distillation is performed using a cohobation system.
Cohobation is a two-step method that involves recovering and redistilling the hydrosol obtained during the first distillation to further concentrate the essential oil.
Step 1: A first steam distillation of the fresh rose flowers, which produces a layer of hydrosol and essential oil.
Step 2: Recovery and redistillation of the hydrosol obtained from the first step.
The essential oils from both distillations are then blended to create a highly concentrated product.
The Quality of Puressentiel Essential Oils :
- 100% pure : not reconstituted, not mixed with other essential oils of lower quality or with other substances (alcohol, vegetable oils, etc.)
- 100% natural : not denatured, obtained without any solvents (through simple steam distillation or cold mechanical expression)
- 100% complete : containing the full range of active principles
- 100% integral : non décolorées, non rectifiées, non peroxydées, non déterpénées, non reconstituées
- HEBBD : Botanically and Biochemically Defined Essential Oils. This quality criterion guarantees the botanical and biochemical identification of each essential oil.
