How to stop smoking with essential oils?

Smoking is a behavioural disorder related to an addiction to tobacco consumption. Essential oils can help those who really want to stop smoking. They promote relaxation, which is crucial when you start to quit smoking.

This article is not intended to be a lecture on smoking. It is well known that smoking tobacco or any other substance can lead to multiple health problems.
Apart from your health, smoking also affects your mood, your skin, your hair...

The only way to protect yourself is to stop smoking, and for this we will give you some natural tips to cut your craving. However, only a strong will on your part will enable you to stop smoking for good.

To relieve the urge to smoke

Mix 60 drops of Roman chamomile essential oil and 60 drops of marjoram essential oil in a small glass bottle. Apply 3 to 4 drops of the mixture to the veins on the inside of the wrists and take 10 deep breaths while closing the eyes. From 15 years of age.

How to deal with withdrawal symptoms after quitting smoking?

After you stop smoking, your body has to recover from an addiction it was used to. You will go through a period of withdrawal as your body and mind adjust to the withdrawal. Withdrawal symptoms often peak after 1 to 3 days and then gradually fade after a month. Symptoms vary depending on the number of years of smoking, the amount smoked and the body's ability to recover. Stopping smoking can cause unpleasant physical and psychological symptoms.

Dizziness

In the first few days, you may feel a little dizzy. Without major risk, take time to breathe deeply. Yawning can also help you stay connected to the world around you.

Bulimia/hunger (a few weeks)

Bulimia is an eating disorder characterised by the absorption of a large quantity of food over a short period. Essential oils are stimulating, anti-fatigue, anti-depressant and anti-anxiety, and can be used in cases of bulimia linked to major stress or a state of general fatigue. Clove is an excellent general stimulant and cinnamon is a powerful anti-fatigue agent. Roman chamomile and marjoram are two remarkable anti-stress agents, to be used in case of irrepressible impulses (bulimia, desire to smoke, etc.). Essential oils have aromas that saturate the olfactory tract and also send a message of satiety to the brain. These are the most commonly used appetite suppressant scents. The shell marjoram is precious for people who stop smoking, it prevents irritability and bulimia.

 

Suppressing appetite and resisting urges

Add 1 drop of Ceylon cinnamon essential oil, 1 drop of clove essential oil and 2 drops of bergamot essential oil on a handkerchief to be inhaled deeply 10 times in a row in case of hunger or food compulsions. From 15 years of age.

Fatigue and insomnia : 2 to 4 weeks

Fatigue and insomnia are two complementary symptoms when quitting smoking. This is mainly due to the lack of nicotine. Nicotine acts as a stimulant in your body. After quitting smoking, your body is detoxifying and adapting to the lack of nicotine, which increases fatigue and sleep disturbances.

Essential oils can help you relax before bedtime to improve your night's sleep and recover sufficiently to be fit the next day. Avoid excitants such as coffee or soda, your body needs a break to detoxify naturally.

 

Physical or mental fatigue

Massage along the spine with a mixture of 3 drops of thyme linalool essential oil and 2 drops of black spruce essential oil diluted in 1 teaspoon of macadamia vegetable oil. 2 times a day for 5 days. For adults only.

Fatigue and nervous imbalance

Mix 1 drop of basil essential oil and 1 drop of clove essential oil in a teaspoon of vegetable oil (jojoba, sweet almond, etc.). Morning and evening, massage the nervous plexus and along the spine, for 3 weeks. For adults only.

OR

Mix 2 drops of lavender aspic essential oil and 2 drops of rosemary cineole essential oil in 2 drops of macadamia vegetable oil. Apply in the morning and at noon on the inside of the wrists and breathe deeply 10 times. Repeat for 15 days. For adults only.

Fatigue

Mix 6 drops of clove essential oil and 4 drops of fresh ginger essential oil in 10 drops of jojoba vegetable oil. Apply every morning and noon, massaging the soles of the feet for 3 weeks. From 15 years of age.

Massage and dry inhalation: Mix 5 drops of neroli essential oil in 10 drops of apricot kernel vegetable oil. Apply to the back, nervous plexus, hands and feet at bedtime. You can also apply some under each nostril, and breathe quietly! For adults only.

Cough: Approximately 3 to 4 weeks

After you stop smoking, your respiratory system takes control. The vibrating cilia that line your throat and the cells that line your bronchial tubes start to do their job again, clearing out waste. When you smoked, these were paralysed by the chemicals in cigarette smoke.

A few recipes with essential oils can help relieve your cough, but this is a completely natural phenomenon that will subside over time. You can also be physically active and drink plenty of water to help your respiratory system recover more quickly.

Dilute 2 drops of cypress essential oil and 2 drops of black spruce essential oil in 1 teaspoon of black cumin vegetable oil, massage on the chest and upper back, 3 times a day for 4 to 5 days. From 15 years of age.

Constipation : 3 to 4 weeks

This symptom is also related to nicotine. Nicotine has a stimulating effect on the intestinal transit, because it activates it. Your body was therefore used to this intestinal stimulation and is trying to regain its natural functions.
To avoid constipation and allow your intestinal transit to function properly, you can consume water, fruit and raw vegetables . Ginger essential oil can be your best ally!

Irritability

Nervousness, irritability or depression are symptoms related to nicotine withdrawal. These symptoms are transitory, but they can last up to 2 or 3 months. This is the time it takes to free yourself from the addiction. Don't hesitate to tell your friends and family about your particularly sensitive condition so that they can provide you with much-needed support.

 

Mood swings

Dilute 30 drops of neroli (adult) or marjoram essential oil in 30 ml of sweet almond vegetable oil. Apply 5 drops of one of the following mixtures by massaging on the chest and the base of the neck. Also spread 3 drops on the inside of the wrists and breathe in deeply, 10 times in a row. Repeat 3 times a day for 3 weeks. 7 years and over.

Irritability / Susceptibility

Dilute 20 drops of sandalwood essential oil + 10 drops of patchouli essential oil in 30 ml of sweet almond vegetable oil. Massage 5 drops of one of the following mixtures into the chest and the base of the neck. Also spread 3 drops on the inside of the wrists and breathe in deeply, 10 times in a row. Repeat 3 times a day for 3 weeks. Adult only.

 

How to remove tobacco odours?

When you smoke indoors, odours can quickly permeate the walls or the air. This smell can be unpleasant for other people in the home or your guests.
If you stop smoking, keeping this smell in your home can play a psychological role and make you want to smoke. Over time, you will regain your sense of smell and notice the unpleasant odour yourself. To remove it, sanitise your rooms with lemon, citronella or pine essential oils using a diffuser or spray bottle.

 

Air purification, bad smells

Mix 20 drops of pine essential oil, 25 drops of rosemary essential oil and 10 drops of linalool thyme essential oil in 250 ml of water. Pour the water and essential oils into a spray bottle for green plants. Shake well, then spray into the air, onto carpets and curtains. For adults only.
