My natural and non-polluting recipes for my bathroom
Cleaning without polluting your bathroom is actually much easier than it seems!
I MAKE MY OWN TOILET RIM BLOCK
Less synthetic chemicals, more savings! It’s fun to do... and even kids can help! Boil 200 ml of water and add 4 grams of agar-agar (powdered seaweed, sold in sachets or small pots in health & organic stores). Keep boiling for 3 minutes while stirring, extinguish and then add to the mixture: 150 ml of white vinegar + 20 drops of lemon essence (or Siberian pine essential oil, or rosemary cineole or eucalyptus radiata/globulus essential oil) + 20 drops of tea tree essential oil. Then pour into small plastic or cardboard baking pan (such as small cake or financier cake baking pan, small tartelette baking pan) and leave to cool. All that's left to do is hanging a block on the bowl with a wire (or a piece of clothes hanger) and it will be very effective. Unused blocks can be kept for several weeks, as long as they are kept in a cool place.
PERFUMING AND SANITIZING TOILETS
Stay away from propellant gas sprays and synthetic perfumes in confined spaces: they are toxic to the respiratory system. Instead, make a blend using equal portions (around 5 to 7 drops) of geranium and ravintsara essential oils, rounding it out with lemon essential oil, and diffuse for about 15 minutes. You can also leave a small raised dish containing stones, or small pieces of wood (or cotton) soaked in a few drops of these essential oils: Scots pine, eucalyptus or cypress, true lavender, well-known for their fresh, gentle and flowery scents. A
CLEAN SHOWER CURTAIN
Shower curtain is one of the most unpleasant accessories to clean. It is not very pleasant because it is riddled with blackish mould stains (sometimes even almost "sticky") and not very hygienic. It is time to remove your shower curtain and clean it! Let’s start by rubbing it flat in the bath with a big brush and white vinegar. Then, wash it in the washing machine at 30° and add a cup of baking soda and a few drops of lavender aspic essential oil or rosemary camphor/ cineole essential oil in the laundry tub. It will come out perfectly clean. The last step consists in hanging it out and letting it dry. Also, it is essential to remind you that after each shower, you should always close the curtain to avoid damp folds and better air it, thus delaying the appearance of mould.
